I just got my approval email that I'm now a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator as well as an AKC Star Puppy Evaluator! Canine Good Citizen is a program that promotes responsible dog ownership and encourages the training of well mannered dogs. Dogs are tested on ten things, such as sit politely for petting, walking through a crowd, etc. CGC is a title and is used as the basis for ongoing training, such as becoming a therapy or service dog. Dogs may have the abbreviation after their name. Ex: Fido, CGC.
I'm so excited to test Palm Beach County Dogs for this awesome title! My first one will be Xenia, a blak lab training to become a therapy dog in Wellington, Florida. Stay tuned for updates and check out the AKC sites: http://www.akc.org/dog-owners/training/canine-good-citizen/ and www.akc.com
